Transport yourself back to 1992 in Japan when SEGA introduced the intriguing “Chōonsoku Action Campaign” (Supersonic Action Campaign). As part of this campaign, players were asked to send a letter posing a question: “who was the mysterious two-tailed character running alongside Sonic?” It was none other than Miles “Tails” Prower, who would go on to become Sonic’s loyal sidekick and best friend. Winners of the campaign were given the choice between a JPY 1,000 coupon for Sonic 2 with a VHS advertisement tape or a limited edition Sonic 2 parka, of which only 500 were available. Relive the nostalgia by watching the original TV commercial for the quiz below:

In an incredible turn of events, Twitter user @suddendesu recently acquired a rare piece of Sonic history—the full response letter sent to campaign applicants. The letter included the Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Mega Drive Official Guide Book, a comic prologue to Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and two single-page gag comics by Sango Morimoto. Take a look at the pictures and scans below!

This remarkable find adds to the collection of lost media that has now resurfaced. @suddendesu plans to share the complete scans of the letter at a later date, and we will keep you updated as it happens!
