Description

Emerald City, which is also recognized as Seattle Zone, is a metropolitan zone inspired by the setting of Seattle in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. This urban area portrays a sprawling and contemporary seaport city characterized by nighttime ambiance and rainy weather. The sky is dominated by a blend of dark blue and purple clouds. In the distance, numerous towering structures and skyscrapers, illuminated with orange-glowing windows, form the cityscape, including the iconic Space Needle associated with Seattle.

The racecourse within Emerald City consists of a broad four-lane asphalt road bordered by yellow lane markings along its edges and middle. Broken white lines further segment the lanes. Occasionally, the racetrack transitions into pale red pedestrian walkways.

Adjacent to the racing track are an array of elements, such as taxis, police vehicles with flashing sirens, passenger cars, trucks, potted plants, dumpsters, bus stops, city trees with green foliage, streetlamps, flashing traffic lights, basic street signs, benches, and traffic management equipment like cones and barriers. On either side of the racetrack, there are apartment complexes, shops with overhangs, and towers, each showcasing subdued hues and emitting orange illumination through their windows. Alongside the racetrack, side streets are shrouded in mist, separated from the main track. Overhead, lampposts dangle from strings. While navigating the pedestrian areas, players may encounter a bustling marketplace identified by a prominent red neon sign reading “EMERALD MARKET CENTER.” These zones exhibit open spaces adorned with pale red sett paving and include outdoor furnishings like tables, chairs, parasols, and food trucks. Additional city trees and handrails contribute to the atmosphere.

Trivia

Emerald City sets itself apart in several ways within Sonic Forces: Speed Battle:

  1. Unlike Golden Bay, Emerald City is the second area that isn’t inspired by an existing location from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. This distinction was first established by Golden Bay.
  2. Similar to Golden Bay, Sky Sanctuary, and Planet Wisp, Emerald City is among the zones that were not originally present in Sonic Forces but were introduced in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.
  3. Differing from the other areas in Sonic Forces, Emerald City deviates from the game’s music selection. Instead of using music from Sonic Forces, it employs an instrumental rendition of “Living in the City” from Sonic R.
  4. In terms of enemies, Emerald City is noteworthy for featuring the drone-like Badniks from the Sonic the Hedgehog film. These Badniks serve as stationary adversaries throughout the tracks, distinguishing it from other areas in the game.
