Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has just received a major update, bringing some of its biggest gameplay and online changes yet.

The headline addition is a new gameplay feature called Bonus Ring Frenzy. This mode can now appear across multiple race types, flooding tracks with bonus Rings and putting a much heavier focus on how players collect and spend them during races.

That shift ties directly into the eight new Gadgets introduced in this update. These open up new playstyles, including builds centered around spending Rings aggressively or even running with none at all, adding more variety to how races play out.

Online has also seen a noticeable overhaul. World Match is now available during Festivals, removing a previous limitation, and rewards have been increased across the board. Donpa Tickets have been boosted significantly, and the maximum World Match rating has been expanded from 99,999 to 999,999.

The update also adds new cosmetic and music content. A “Sega Racing & Variety” album has been added to the Jukebox, featuring tracks from OutRun, Sega Rally 2, and Power Drift. Alongside this, 35 new decals have been introduced, including a collaboration set based on SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance and several real-world brands.

A new Gadget button option has been implemented, allowing players to assign a dedicated input for certain abilities. Players can also now disable automatic rental plate switching during Festivals, giving more control over race setups.

Balance adjustments are a major focus in Version 1.3.1. Some dominant strategies from previous versions have been toned down, including invincibility builds and late-race comeback tools. At the same time, other Gadgets have been improved to make position recovery more consistent.

Several technical fixes have also been applied. Online desync issues have been addressed, CPU behavior has been adjusted, and multiple track-specific bugs have been resolved. The Warp Ring item has also been restricted in competitive online modes due to unintended shortcuts, though it remains available in offline play and friend matches.

The update also sets the stage for upcoming content. The Mega Man DLC is scheduled to launch on March 25, followed by Red, Goro Majima, and Arle Nadja in the months after.

Players will need to update to Version 1.3.1 to continue accessing online multiplayer and DLC content.
