Dengeki Online has published the results of its original Sonic character popularity poll, revealing the Top 12 ranked characters from across SEGA’s Sonic series.
The poll covered every character that has appeared in the Sonic games, excluding crossover characters from other franchises. Alongside the rankings, Dengeki Online also shared fan comments that help explain why each character continues to resonate so strongly with the community.
Sonic secured first place overall, with fans describing him as a one of a kind hero who lives by his own rules. Voters praised his unwavering sense of freedom, his refusal to abandon anyone in need, and the adventurous spirit that has defined the series since the beginning.
Shadow claimed second place, earning admiration for his cool demeanor, inner vulnerability, and unshakable sense of conviction. Many comments focused on the emotional depth of his story, particularly his connection to Maria and the difficult choices that continue to shape his character.
Silver rounded out the top three, drawing passionate support for his hopeful and determined personality. Fans highlighted his pure heart, strong sense of justice, and willingness to fight for the future no matter how overwhelming the odds become. Several voters also noted how Silver stands apart from Sonic and Shadow while still feeling like a central figure in the franchise.
The remainder of the Top 12 features a mix of longtime fan favorites, rivals, and some unexpected picks, reflecting the wide appeal of Sonic’s cast more than three decades after the series debuted in 1991.
