This month’s commemorative illustration from Sonic Channel puts the spotlight on everyone’s favorite flying fox, Tails! The artwork celebrates the 30th anniversary of Tails Adventure, one of the two solo spin-off titles starring Sonic’s trusty sidekick. Originally released on September 22, 1995 for the SEGA Game Gear, Tails Adventure remains one of the closest things the Sonic series has ever had to a Metroidvania.
The illustration shows Tails piloting the Sea Fox—known as the Sea Tail in Japan—alongside a cheerful Pecky. While the submarine first appeared in Sonic Triple Trouble, it played a far more important role in Tails Adventure, serving as a key item that let Tails explore underwater areas instead of just a temporary power-up.
