Well, this is awkward. It looks like NiGHTS is coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. While SEGA hasn’t officially announced the Sonic Team darling, a render confirming the character’s inclusion as DLC was spotted in New Zealand on the back of a pre-order case. The discovery was first shared by Sonic the Hedgehog subreddit community member u/Any_Skill_6710, and although many were skeptical at first given how easy it is to fake box art, further proof soon followed.
Twitter user @RulezRonan later posted both video footage and additional photos of different game cases, confirming that the leak — and NiGHTS’ inclusion — is the real deal. Check out the video below:
The reveal is a welcome surprise, but also a little awkward given SEGA’s silence. You’d think the character would have been announced by now, especially since NiGHTS is one of the three characters featured on the back of the retail case. Some fans even wondered if Hatsune Miku might have been a more obvious choice, considering her prominent role in previews, trailers, and the ongoing weekly Project ONSOKU music reveal campaign that ties directly into the game.
Either way, it seems only a matter of time before this beloved cult classic gets an official spotlight. NiGHTS’ last appearance was as a character skin in Sonic Superstars’ multiplayer, so this marks the character’s first proper return in years. With Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launching on September 25, 2025, the timing of this reveal couldn’t be closer.

I have a feeling SEGA intentionally teased NiGHTS weeks before this was uncovered.
