Zavok

Zavok (ザボック, Zabokku) is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is a Zeti and serves as the leader of the Deadly Six, as well as the leader of his entire species.

When Dr. Eggman arrived in the Lost Hex, Zavok and the other Deadly Six were compelled to serve him due to the influence of the Cacophonic Conch. Once Sonic the Hedgehog arrived and destroyed the conch, Zavok and his allies turned against Eggman and seized control of his forces. Zavok then implemented his plan for world domination by using Eggman’s Extractor to enhance his own powers and those of the Deadly Six, with the goal of destroying Earth. Despite his ambitions, Zavok was ultimately defeated by Sonic, although his defeat was not permanent.

Appearance

Zavok is a red Zeti with a notably stocky physique. His upper body and serpentine tail are predominantly red, while his lower body is black. His hands are five-fingered with sharp cyan claws, and his feet are two-clawed with cyan toes. Zavok’s head is relatively small compared to his body, featuring a protruding lower jaw with a row of spiked fangs. The upper part of his head is black, adorned with red markings around his eyes, which are purple with yellow sclera.

He sports a prominent cyan unibrow that forms a vaguely V-shaped crest. Zavok also has viciously curved horns, striped in dark gray, protruding from the sides of his head, and a large cyan ponytail extending from the back. Additionally, he has two rows of sharp black spikes on his shoulders. His only attire consists of black bracelets with gray spikes jutting out.

History

Past

At one point, Zavok became the final disciple of Master Zik, the elderly Zeti. Under Zik’s guidance, Zavok was trained in martial arts, significantly enhancing his strength and combat abilities. Many years ago, Zavok was introduced to the Deadly Six when Master Zik established the group. His extensive training and formidable skills made him an ideal candidate for the role of their leader.

Sonic Lost World

In the Wii U and PC versions of Sonic Lost World, Zavok and the rest of the Deadly Six encountered Dr. Eggman, who used the Cacophonic Conch to enslave them. Reluctantly, Zavok helped Eggman with his plan for world domination by capturing animals to create an army of Badniks. Eggman also demonstrated how to create Badniks and revealed his intentions to use the Deadly Six to both conquer the world and defeat Sonic the Hedgehog. Intrigued by Sonic, Zavok allowed Zazz to battle him to gain more insight.

During their time in Windy Hill, Zavok and his team crossed paths with Sonic, before accompanying Eggman, who left Zazz to deal with Sonic. As Zavok continued the hunt for animals, he voiced his dissatisfaction with Eggman’s criticism of their efforts, but was quickly reprimanded by Eggman using the Cacophonic Conch. Later, while Eggman tested his unstable Extractor, Zavok secretly overheard the experiment.

Subsequently, Zavok and the Deadly Six were further chastised by Eggman, who used the Cacophonic Conch to assert his authority. When Sonic appeared and knocked the conch away, Zavok and his team regained their freedom. They seized control of Eggman’s Badniks, directing them to attack everyone present. Zavok then commanded his team to join the assault, successfully driving Eggman, Orbot, Cubot, Sonic, and Tails away.

Once freed, the Deadly Six took over Dr. Eggman’s operations on the Lost Hex, but Sonic continued to oppose them. When Master Zik expressed a desire to confront Sonic, Zavok hesitated, preferring not to burden himself with that task. When Master Zik returned, Zavok put his plan into motion: he intended to use the Extractor to destroy Earth and harness its energy to strengthen the Deadly Six, seeking revenge against Eggman. This plan earned Zavok the approval of Master Zik.

Zavok then tricked the lethargic Zeena into dealing with Sonic. He also contacted Sonic, Eggman, and their allies to taunt and mock Eggman before being abruptly cut off. Inspired by Master Zik and Eggman’s technology, Zavok devised a plan to enslave Sonic by converting him into a robot using their combined knowledge.

The Deadly Six set a trap for Sonic but ended up capturing Tails instead. Although frustrated, Zavok decided to exploit this situation to their advantage. He also scolded Zor, who arrived to report the failed capture of Sonic.

Upon encountering Sonic, Zavok taunted him with his plans to convert Tails into a robot and threatened to cause the loss of Sonic’s friends on Earth due to the Extractor. This provoked Sonic into two separate battles with Zavok, both of which Sonic won. Enraged by his defeats, Zavok began the process of mechanizing Tails as an act of revenge and left the Roboticizer to complete the transformation.

Later, Zavok confronted Sonic alongside Zor and Zeena, presenting a seemingly roboticized Tails. He demanded that Sonic join Tails, but when Sonic refused, Zavok ordered Tails to kill him. However, Tails, having only pretended to be roboticized, turned on Zavok, forcing him to retreat. In their final encounter, Zavok faced Sonic once more, but despite his enhanced strength from the Extractor, he was defeated by Sonic once again.

Sonic Forces

In Sonic Forces, Zavok, along with Chaos, Shadow, and Metal Sonic, was Phantom Copied by Infinite, Dr. Eggman’s newest ally, using the Phantom Ruby. This Phantom Copy of Zavok was integrated into the Eggman Army as one of its top soldiers. He made his debut alongside the other Phantom Copies to aid Infinite in his efforts to defeat Sonic. Following this, Phantom Zavok played a key role in helping Eggman conquer over 99% of Earth.

Six months later, Phantom Zavok was dispatched to the Death Egg to fulfill Eggman’s plan of banishing Sonic into space. However, due to the Resistance disrupting the power on the space station, Sonic’s restraints were released just as Phantom Zavok arrived, allowing him to confront the illusionary Zeti. Utilizing the Death Queen, the Zavok Phantom Copy battled Sonic but was ultimately defeated. He faded away upon his defeat, voicing his frustration at once again being bested by Sonic.

In the final battle at the outskirts of the Eggman Empire Fortress, hundreds of Zavok’s Phantom Copies participated alongside the Eggman Army against the Resistance. They continued to fight until all their sources were neutralized, leading to the complete eradication of the Phantom Copies.

Team Sonic Racing

In Team Sonic Racing, Zavok allied with Dr. Eggman with the goal of defeating Sonic once and for all. He was later tasked by Eggman with stealing the Ultimate Energy Engine from its creator, Dodon Pa. During the mission, Zavok was briefly seen by Big the Cat, but fortunately, no one paid much attention to the observation. However, Zavok was soon spotted by the Chao near a racetrack, leading Sonic and the other racers to notice his presence.

When Eggman claimed he had no involvement with Zavok’s appearance at the Grand Prix, he quickly invited Zavok to join Team Eggman and provided him with the Road Dragoon to race in. Despite this, Eggman chastised Zavok for being discovered and was further irritated when Zavok admitted that he had failed to locate the Ultimate Energy Engine. Eggman expected better performance from Zavok in the Grand Prix, but Zavok’s poor racing results led to further criticism from Eggman. Zavok defended himself by insisting that their opponents were simply strong and warned Eggman to keep quiet.

Later, Eggman assigned Zavok a more fitting task: kidnapping Dodon Pa. After successfully capturing Dodon Pa and bringing him aboard the Final Fortress, Zavok witnessed Eggman demand the Ultimate Energy Engine from Dodon Pa. However, Dodon Pa revealed that the engine was unfinished and thus useless. Additionally, the racers had ceased racing, which meant no Ultimate Team Energy was being produced to complete the engine. Zavok pointed out to Eggman that this was a direct result of their actions, as kidnapping Dodon Pa had halted the Grand Prix and disrupted the production of the necessary energy.

To remedy the situation, Eggman tricked Sonic and his friends into racing his henchmen so that Dodon Pa could capture their Ultimate Team Energy and finish the engine. Zavok was included as one of the racers that Sonic and his team had to defeat. Despite his efforts, Zavok lost the race. He continued participating in subsequent races alongside Eggman until Dodon Pa completed the Ultimate Energy Engine, which Eggman then stole and incorporated into his Death Egg.

In the final showdown, Zavok raced against the heroes onboard the Final Fortress. Ultimately, Zavok and his team were defeated, and the Death Egg collided with the Final Fortress’s energy core. This collision forced Eggman and his allies to escape as the Final Fortress began to collapse.
