The official Sonic the Hedgehog social media accounts have announced that the original standalone version of Sonic Generations will be delisted on September 9th to make way for its remastered version, which will be bundled with Sonic X Shadow Generations.
According to the post, Sonic Generations will still be available through bundles with other Sonic titles on Steam and Xbox. Existing owners will retain access to the game if it is uninstalled, and mods for the Steam version will not be affected.
This is excellent news, as the original PC version of Sonic Generations is one of the most modded games in the franchise. It features numerous community-created levels, improvements, and tweaks, offering players hours of additional content not present in the official release. The game’s Gamebanana page alone boasts over 1.2k mods available for download!
This stands in stark contrast to the release of Sonic Origins, where the original games were delisted on all digital platforms, leaving no official means to access them as originally intended, along with the many ROM hacks and mods for those versions.
