Team Sonic
- Not to be confused with Sonic Team. For other uses, see Team Sonic (disambiguation).
Team Sonic (チームソニック Chīmu Sonikku?), also known as Team Heroes (チームヒーローズ Chīmu Hīrōzu?), is a group in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was founded by Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower and Knuckles the Echidna at the beginning of the Neo Metal Sonic incident.
Since then, the trio has reunited on various occasions to deal with other dangers or to just compete against other teams. With its primary members having at least one talent at which they excel, Team Sonic is a highly capable team who has overcome several threats to the world.
History[edit | edit source]
Sonic Heroes[edit | edit source]
In Sonic Heroes, the trio's members came together when Tails and Knuckles tracked Sonic down in order to show him a letter from Dr. Eggman, which said that in just three days time, the doctor would conquer the world with "the ultimate weapon" and that he challenged the trio to stop him. After receiving the letter, the hedgehog headed out with his friends right behind him to foil the doctor's plot, thereby officially forming Team Sonic.
Seeking to stop Eggman before his deadline, the trio tracked "him" down to Ocean Palace. There, they defeated his Egg Hawk, but when he escaped, the heroes found him at Grand Metropolis. After liberating the city from the doctor's control and escaping the Power Plant, the crew came across Team Rose, who began fighting them.
Eventually escaping the other team, the group continued their hunt for "Eggman". After overcoming the scientist and his robot army in the big city with only a day to spare, Team Sonic followed the doctor to Rail Canyon. Having only until sunset to stop their nemesis, the heroes hurried to the center of Bullet Station where they destroyed Eggman's base and defeated the scientist and his Egg Albatross. However, upon the doctor's defeat, they discovered that the Eggman they had been chasing was a fake and that their challenge letter was to distract them while the Egg Fleet was launched.
Chasing after their adversary through the jungle, the trio encountered Team Dark, and they were amazed to see Shadow alive and well. After the two teams fought to decide who went after Eggman, the trio pursued him and Team Dark to a spooky castle. After escaping a haunted mansion, Sonic and his crew overcame the doctor's next wave of robot henchmen, before going up to the Egg Fleet. After infiltrating the Final Fortress and destroying its core, the group found "Eggman" in his Egg Emperor and defeated him.
Afterward, they set off a chain reaction that destroyed most of the fleet. With their mission complete, Sonic thanked his teammates before running away when he saw Amy arrive.
Soon after, the trio and the other teams saw the appearance of Neo Metal Sonic, who had been staging the teams' adventures and impersonating Eggman so he could follow them and copy their data in an effort to conquer the world himself, as he transformed into Metal Madness. Seeing that the teams had all the Chaos Emeralds, the real Dr. Eggman came up with the plan of using them against his treacherous robot. Though their chances of winning were slim, Sonic volunteered to go up against Metal Sonic alone. Knuckles and Tails, however, joined the hedgehog's side while the other teams were willing to buy them some time.
The crew thus got the Emeralds ready while Teams Rose, Dark, and Chaotix fought Metal Madness. By the time the robot turned into Metal Overlord, the trio had prepared the Emeralds and Sonic transformed into Super Sonic while also granting Tails and Knuckles their Super States as well, and the three followed Metal Overlord into the skies. Though their adversary proved nearly impervious, the heroes' unified power was able to inflict damage on the mechanical tyrant and eventually defeat him, sending him falling down from the sky. After celebrating their victory, the trio returned to Final Fortress and powered down to normal.
Afterward, Sonic took his leave with Tails while Knuckles tried to stop Rouge from going after the Master Emerald. Regardless, the trio reunited soon after and headed out to find their next adventure.
Sonic Riders series[edit | edit source]
Sonic Riders[edit | edit source]
In Sonic Riders, the trio came to Metal City in search of a Chaos Emerald that they were tracking. While tracking the Emerald however, the Emerald was stolen by a group of Extreme Gear-riding thieves called the Babylon Rogues. The trio tried to stop the group, but they ultimately got away with the Chaos Emerald. The next day, the trio saw Dr. Eggman on an announcement screen advertising the EX World Grand Prix and explaining that the entry fee for the contestants was a Chaos Emerald, with the winner getting to claim all seven.
Sonic was initially suspicious, but when the group saw that the participants Eggman had found were the Babylon Rogues, Team Sonic decided to enter the competition, with Extreme Gears customized by Tails.
After the qualification rounds, the trio met Amy, who had signed up for the Grand Prix as well. As Tails then told his team about what he knew about the Babylon Rogues, Wave showed up and mocked Tails' customized Extreme Gear while secretly planting a bomb on Sonic's Blue Star. Although the trio was angered by Wave's attitude, they had to hurry to the next race. Getting through more rounds, Knuckles eliminated Storm from the competition after having a hostile encounter with him. When Sonic later took some time off to practice with Team Sonic, Jet stopped by to mock Sonic's efforts. Annoyed and undaunted by Jet's mockery, Team Sonic proceeded to pass through the semifinals, with Tails eliminating Wave from the competition. At the finals, the trio faced off against Jet. As Sonic stood to win the final race though, Wave detonated the bomb she had planted on Sonic's Blue Star, causing him to lose and allowing Jet to claim victory. The trio then witnessed Jet claim the seven Chaos Emeralds and use them in tandem with the Key to Babylon Garden to make Babylon Garden rise up from the ground, with the intention of claiming the city's treasure. Eggman, however, stole the key so that he could take the treasure for himself, believing it to be technology that he could use to conquer the world. Team Sonic thus headed out to stop Eggman.
Using the Tornado 2, the trio arrived at Babylon Garden. There, Sonic received a new Extreme Gear from Tails, which he used to beat Jet in a race to Eggman's location. Meanwhile, Tails and Knuckles found Wave and Storm but then had to escape the doctor's E-10000 units with them. When Sonic then confronted Eggman however, the doctor revealed he was holding Amy hostage. While Eggman was not looking though, Sonic blew Eggman (and Amy) away with his Extreme Gear, allowing him to claim the Key to Babylon Garden. After Sonic handed the key over to Jet, the Babylon Rogues were reunited and decided to keep the key in spite of Jet's refusal. Having reunited themselves, the trio decided to take their leave too, but then Amy returned to get back at Sonic for endangering her earlier. Soon after though, Amy and the trio heard that something was going on inside Babylon Garden and decided to check it out. There, they saw that the Babylon Rogues had awoken the Babylon Guardian. After helping the Babylon Rogues defeat the guardian, Amy and the trio (along with the Babylon Rogues their selves) found the Treasure of Babylon, which turned out to be a Magic Carpet, much to the disappointment of Eggman when he arrived to steal it. Regardless, Amy, the trio, and the Babylon Rogues were fascinated by this advanced piece of fabric. With the whole ordeal over and with their rivalry more friendly, the trio and the Babylon Rogues parted ways but promised to meet again to settle their score.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity[edit | edit source]
In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, a few months after the EX World Grand Prix,[2] The trio was in Monopole. While driving his team through the city, Tails showed Sonic and Knuckles a mysterious meteorite that he had found the other night. On their way to Megalo Station, however, the trio was attacked by SCR-HD and some SCR-GPs, a part of a current global robot rampage who were after the meteorite. In the insuring chase, Team Sonic fell out from a 300-story high building, but Sonic was saved by the meteorite by using it to manipulate gravity.
While hiding from the robots, the trio met Amy who revealed she was being chased by the robots because she had a meteorite similar to Sonic's. The trio then decided to head to the robots' creator, MeteorTech, to get some answers. There, Amy and the trio were discovered by security, but then the Babylon Rogues arrived and Jet repelled the security robots with another meteorite. Jet then demanded the meteorites (called the Arks of the Cosmos) and revealed his intention to challenge Sonic to a race. Noticing the incoming robots though, the trio decided to postpone this reunion. Eventually arriving in MeteorTech's control room, the trio found Dr. Eggman, who revealed himself to be the owner of MeteorTech, prompting the trio to point out Eggman as the mastermind behind the robot rampage. While Eggman claimed to have no part in it, Sonic got suspicious when Eggman recognized his Ark of the Cosmos. After Knuckles forced him, Eggman revealed that MeteorTech's mother computer was powered by one of the Arks of the Cosmos and that the robot's leader, SCR-HD, which also had an Ark of the Cosmos, sought them out for reasons unknown. Team Sonic then noticed that Amy was gone, and saw on the computer screen that she was being chased by SCR-HD and Storm. Heading out to save Amy,the trio found her next to SCR-HD's remains, and Amy told them that SCR-HD had suddenly blown up and that Storm had taken its Ark of the Cosmos. Although the robots' leader was down, Tails deduced that they had to remove the Ark of the Cosmos in MeteorTech's mother computer to stop the robots. As they tried to figure where the mother computer could be, Amy remembered Storm mentioning the Gigan Rocks. The Gigan Rocks held information about the Ark of the Cosmos, so Amy and the trio went there to find clues.
At the Gigan Rocks, the group learned that the Arks of the Cosmos were power units for Babylon Garden. The group then saw the Babylon Rogues chase after Eggman above them and learned from both that and the ruins the location of MeteorTech's mother computer. When Amy and the trio got to this location, they found the Crimson Tower and the Babylon Rogues, who told them Eggman had stolen their Arks of the Cosmos, making the trio conclude that Eggman planned to use the Arks of the Cosmos to control all the world's robots for world domination. The trio subsequently engaged the Babylon Rogues in a race to Eggman, with the right to all of the Arks of the Cosmos being at stake. Ultimately, the race ended in a draw between Sonic and Jet, who stopped Eggman and the global robot rampage. Then Babylon Garden appeared due to all the Arks of the Cosmos being present. After this happened, Sonic gave his Arks of the Cosmos to Jet, and the trio prepared to take their leave. However, SCR-HD then appeared and took all five Arks of the Cosmos to Babylon Garden. That transformed it into Astral Babylon and made it form a black hole that threatened to consume the planet. The trio and the Babylon Rogues thus headed to Astral Babylon to disconnect the ship's engine and stop the black hole. There, they faced and defeated Master Core: ABIS, thus saving the world. Afterward, the trio return to Monopole with Amy, where Tails went over how the Arks of the Cosmos made the robots go amok. Immediately after, Amy and the trio encountered Jet, who challenged Sonic to a race, which Sonic accepted.
Sonic Free Riders[edit | edit source]
In Sonic Free Riders, Team Heroes entered the second World Grand Prix hosted by "King Doc" as Team Heroes to grab the title as the World's Fastest Extreme Gear racing team. As the team got interviewed by Omochao before the competition, Sonic and Tails noted that Eggman was up to something.
For their first race, the heroes found themselves going up against Team Rose, who the trio had mixed opinions about. Regardless, the three faced Team Rose. Between the rounds, Sonic would get an earful from Amy for not going easy on her while his teammates remained largely impartial. Though, after the trio managed to achieve a quick victory over Team Rose in the end, the trio went up against Team Dark. Between the races, Knuckles accused E-10000B of foul play, but Sonic and Tails believed he was just imagining it when they could not find evidence. After beating Team Dark, the trio got to the finals where they went up against Team Babylon. As the showdown between the two groups progressed, the rivalries between the members only heated up. In the end though, the trio claimed the official victory. However, upon learning that Jet had mechanical trouble during his races, Sonic called for a rematch, intending to have a fair race. Sonic subsequently faced Jet one-on-one and defeated him. The trio was thus saluted as champions and expressed great satisfaction with their victory.
Throughout the rest of the tournament, the trio had their own fair share of defeats. At the end of the tournament, the team and the others came to the awards ceremony to collect their prizes, but Eggman made them have a final race against his "ultimate Gear-Jockey robot". After the race, Eggman revealed that he used the World Grand Prix to gather the riders' racing data with his E-10000 robots to create the ultimate Extreme Gear which he could use for his own agenda. While Knuckles and Tails realized that the former's suspicion was not just paranoia, Sonic thought Eggman's plan was lame. In retaliation, Eggman challenged Team Sonic and the other racers to a race but lost. In the aftermath of Eggman's defeat, the trio saw Metal Sonic emerge from E-1000B. Tails then deduced that Metal had stolen Eggman's data and replaced it with fake info. Immediately after, Metal challenged the real Sonic to race. Accepting the challenge, Sonic beat the data-enhanced Metal Sonic, who ran away after his defeat. The trio then discovered that Eggman never had any prize to give out to the winners. Regardless, Sonic thought they all had a great time competing.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)[edit | edit source]
Team Sonic Racing[edit | edit source]
In Team Sonic Racing, Team Sonic received a vaguely worded invitation to the Ultimate Test of Racing Skill. Their curiosity piqued, Team Sonic made a beeline for the rendezvous, where they met Team Rose. After Sonic explained their reasons for coming to Amy, an enigmatic stranger approached, a Tanuki calling himself Dodon Pa. He explained vaguely to Team Sonic that he wanted them to test the most technologically advanced racing vehicles ever built on his perilous custom circuits in a Grand Prix where teamwork was the key. While Knuckles and Sonic found Dodon Pa's invitation sketchy, Sonic convinced his team to join the Grand Prix since he was curious to see Dodon Pa's contest and cars. The trio thus joined Dodon Pa onboard his spaceship, which would take them to the first race on Planet Wisp. In addition, Team Rose came along, giving Team Sonic some decent opponents to race.
After the trio received the Speed Star, Land Breaker, and Whirlwind Sport to race in, Dodon Pa explained before the first race that the winner of his content got to keep their cars. While Knuckles got hyped, Tails found the grand price too good to be true, which made him question Dodon Pa's motives. As the Grand Prix progressed, Tails grew more suspicious, as the competition began to seem like an Eggman plot. A few races later, Sonic began to enjoy Dodon Pa's Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Knuckles and Tails still questioned Dodon Pa's reasons for making them compete with such advanced technology. Eventually, Tails secretly contacted Vector to have him get the dirt on Dodon Pa. When Dodon Pa later introduced even harder racing challenges, Tails was surprised by the Tanuki's disturbing nature whereas Sonic welcomed his challenges. A few races later, Team Sonic faced new opponents in the form of Team Vector. Staying focused on the competition, Sonic goaded Amy into racing him. Not long after, the trio met Silver, who revealed that he had received the same invitation to the Grand Prix as them. Hearing that Dodon Pa was capable of sending objects to the future, Knuckles and Tails realized that their host held a lot of power. Regardless, even as Dodon Pa made his races even harder, Sonic welcomed the challenges. Knuckles later caught Tails talking secretively with Vector about the latter's investigation. Not buying Tails' story when he tried to cover up their conversation, Knuckles found Vector's solo appearance at the Grand Prix even more mysterious. Eventually, Knuckles told Sonic that Tails was up to something, but when Sonic faced Tails with this, Sonic allowed Tails to keep working on his project until further notice. Later, when Team Dark and Team Eggman joined, Tails accused Eggman of being behind the Grand Prix. Eggman, however, insisted that he was just here to race. Sonic, on the other hand, was quick to begin trash-talking Eggman.
During a race between Teams Sonic and Dark, they worked on getting the upper hand on one another, with Tails (who worked on figuring out their race cars' abilities) and Knuckles being busy dealing with Omega and Rouge, while Sonic went head-to-head with Shadow. During the race, however, Eggman intruded on the teams' race in order to compete against them on his own as a "special guest" (which Dodon Pa permitted despite knowing it was a lie). After Eggman began gaining the lead, the trio was convinced by Rouge to put their feud aside and work together with Team Dark to beat Eggman. While formulating a plan, Tails had his team pull off the Slingshot on Sonic, thus allowing the blue hedgehog to pass Eggman alongside Shadow. Tails then put his plan into action by calling upon the aid of Team Rose and Team Vector, who joined Team Sonic and Team Dark on the racetrack. Together, the racers surrounded Eggman on the racetrack before delivering a massive beatdown on the doctor with their combined Wisp power-ups. However, Dodon Pa was too busy watching Eggman's beating to see which one between Sonic and Shadow crossed the finish line first. As such, the two hedgehogs decided to have a rematch.[3]
When Sonic and Tails wondered if Dodon Pa was in cahoots with Eggman, Sonic decided to pay Shadow a visit to see if he knew something, as he would surely work with Eggman if it fitted his motives. Although Sonic learned from Shadow that he was just here to stop whatever evil plan Eggman was cooking up, the two hedgehogs' clashing egos soon caused them to race against one another. Afterward, they concluded that they should watch out for Dodon Pa as well. In the meantime, Tails learned from Silver that Eggman and Dodon Pa were seemingly working together. Since they knew nothing about what the two were planning though, Tails advised everyone to keep racing for now and keep an eye on the pair. Sonic was later informed about Silver's discovery by Rouge. As the Grand Prix progressed, Sonic ended up beating Eggman in a race. Eventually, Eggman retaliated by sending hundreds of Eggpawns after Team Sonic and the others. Sonic and the teams managed to destroy them, however. Between the races later on, Knuckles learned from Omochao that Dodon Pa was sending information on the teams' teamwork out to a receiver that they speculated to be Eggman. This almost made Knuckles bait on the Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Tails tried to convince Big that Dodon Pa was evil, but to no avail. Big's talk about Dodon Pa being nice eventually got to Knuckles as well. However, Big eventually brought up a point that made the teams reconsider their opinion about Dodon Pa.
Sonic would later talk with Amy about how crummy a racer Eggman was. After Eggman had Metal Sonic join his team though, Tails got worried, but Sonic was sure that Metal was not an obstacle to worry about. Sonic later tried trash-talking with Silver, but did not get much satisfaction from it. Not long after, Sonic noticed Zavok after a race. When Sonic asked Eggman if Zavok was with him, Eggman denied this, but nonetheless had the Zeti join his team. This move made Knuckles determined to take action, but Sonic and Tails reminded him that they had no moves yet or identified the true villainous mastermind in play. Regardless, Sonic was certain that Eggman was the one they had to worry about and insisted that they should just keep racing. Eventually though, Knuckles hit his limit and confronted Dodon Pa to get some answers. Fortunately, Vector arrived with a background check on Dodon Pa. Team Sonic and the others would then learn from Vector that Dodon Pa was the President of Donpa Motors and the king of Donpa Kingdom. Team Sonic (especially Tails) learned afterward that Dodon Pa was using the Grand Prix to gather information for his corporation's Ultimate Energy Engine, which Dodon Pa wanted to use for philanthropic purposes. With Dodon Pa confirmed to be a good guy, Sonic wanted to focus on the Grand Prix. However, Shadow reminded him that they still had Eggman to worry about.
Soon after, the heroes learned from Big that Eggman had kidnapped Dodon Pa and brought him to the Final Fortress. Wanting to rescue Dodon Pa, Team Sonic and co. went to the Final Fortress. There, Eggman had them compete in a number of races with Team Eggman and his army of Eggpawns in exchange for Dodon Pa, not knowing Eggman was using them to gather the Ultimate Team Energy needed to finish the Ultimate Energy Engine. Once the engine was complete, Eggman stole it from Dodon Pa and incorporated it into his Death Egg. Team Sonic subsequently faced the Death Egg, and Sonic managed to beat it in a race. However, the Death Egg soon after went crazy and drove into the Final Fortress's core. As the Final Fortress crashed, Sonic had his friends abandon their cars and evacuate, with the exception of Tails and Knuckles who decided to remain with Sonic and help him save Dodon Pa. Together, Team Sonic saved Dodon Pa, and they reunited with the others down on the ground. Just as the Grand Prix seemed over since the cars had been destroyed when the Final Fortress crashed, Dodon Pa decided to give everyone new cars, thus allowing the team and the others to race once more.
Other game appearances[edit | edit source]
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood[edit | edit source]
In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, the trio's members were slowly gathered by Sonic early on; Tails joined Sonic's growing team of allies when they met up in Central City and Knuckles joined the group after escaping captivity. Together, Team Sonic and their allies joined forces to stop a group called the Marauders after they had stolen the Chaos Emeralds.
Team Sonic and their allies eventually found Dr. Eggman, whom they believed were in league with the Marauders. However, the doctor claimed that he opposed the Marauders too and that he had been reformed, willing to help Team Sonic and the others by leading them into Metropolis where the Marauders were stationed and had drawn Angel Island to with the Chaos Emeralds, which the team accepted. Along the way, they discovered the Marauders were a group of echidnas from the Nocturnus Clan, exiled to the Twilight Cage 4,000 years ago. After entering Metropolis, Team Sonic split up, with Sonic and Knuckles going to Angel Island to keep the Nocturnus Clan's leader, Imperator Ix, who sought to rule the world, from stealing the Master Emerald, while Tails remained with Eggman to provide them with support. However, Team Sonic was soon reunited with their allies on Angel Island to combat Ix together. Despite their efforts though, Ix got away with the Master Emerald and used it to create a wormhole into Sonic’s dimension so the Nocturnus Clan could conquer it.
Having survived Angel Island's fall, Team Sonic and their allies came up with the plan of going after Ix into the Twilight Cage and reclaim the Emeralds to stop Ix. Using the Blue Cyclone Tails and Eggman created for this purpose, the trio and their friends traveled into the Twilight Cage while Eggman remained behind to watch the wormhole. Inside the Twilight Cage, Team Sonic and their allies got five of the Chaos Emeralds back and forged alliances with the alien races in the Twilight Cage. When they prepared to infiltrate Nocturne to find the last Emeralds, the group was able to enter this stronghold with the help from their alien allies. Once the trio arrived on Nocturne, they split up again in order to broaden their search. After getting the last Chaos Emeralds back, Sonic and Tails came to Knuckles' aid when he faced Ix by distracting Ix while Knuckles got the Master Emerald back. After Sonic defeated Ix, Ix started to close the wormhole out of the Twilight Cage, but Team Sonic and their allies got through it just in time. When they returned home however, Team Sonic and their friends saw that much time had passed, thus allowing Eggman to build up his forces, which they faced upon exit from the Twilight Cage.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed[edit | edit source]
In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Team Sonic is directly referenced as a sticker/achievement, with the artwork used being that of Shadow the Hedgehog from Sonic Channel. In this game, it is also implied Knuckles entered the competition because Sonic and Tails had invited him.
Mario & Sonic series[edit | edit source]
In the crossover games in the Mario & Sonic series, Team Sonic is expanded to every character who originated from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Although, it should be noted that the series is not canon to the main Sonic universe, and none of the extra members are considered as being in Team Sonic outside of the Mario & Sonic franchise, with the same going for the Mario series.
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Shadow, Vector, and Blaze,[4] are all included in Team Sonic. In the sequel, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, two more members joined Team Sonic: Silver the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic. Jet, Rouge, Sticks, Espio, Omega, Eggman Nega, Wave, Cream, Zazz, and Zavok, joined Team Sonic in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Sonic Runners[edit | edit source]
In Sonic Runners, Team Sonic came together again to foil the various plots Dr. Eggman and his lackeys were cooking up. This included saving Animals who had been kidnapped by Eggman to be turned into Badniks, rescuing and protecting Wisps that Eggman was seeking or otherwise capturing for their Hyper-go-on powers, investigating unnatural events, infiltrating Eggman's bases and factories to foil the doctor's operations, spreading the word that Eggman was on the prowl again, helping the Animals fight back against Eggman, contending with Metal Sonic, preventing Eggman from harnessing powerful ancient relics, etc. They also helped the smaller residents of their world (such as Animals, Chao, Omochao, and Wisps) with their different problems and went on small side adventures themselves.
Eggman eventually made a big move by trying to steal the Master Emerald. When Team Sonic tried to stop the theft, Knuckles was forced to shatter the Master Emerald in order to keep Eggman from getting away with it. Afterward, Team Sonic started tracking down the Emerald Shards. Eventually, Team Sonic found all the shards and reassembled the Master Emerald. They then had several Animals guard it to keep it safe from Eggman.
Not long after, Eggman began his endgame: constructing a new Brainwashing Laser powered by the Chaos Emeralds to enslave the world with. Although Team Sonic was able to secure the Emeralds, they were too late to stop Eggman from draining them of their energy. Eventually, Team Sonic got to Eggman's base of operations after getting past all of Eggman's robots and a souped-up Metal Sonic. There, Sonic faced Eggman in a final showdown. Upon Eggman's defeat, however, the mad doctor fired his Brainwashing Laser at Sonic. Fortunately, Sonic was saved by the seven Chaos Emeralds he held, which reabsorbed their energies from the laser and transformed Sonic into Super Sonic, which allowed Sonic to destroy Eggman's laser. Afterward, Sonic, now back to normal, reunited with Team Sonic. Although they noticed that Eggman had snuck away in the confusion to plot his next scheme, the team was sure that they could stop whatever Eggman could come up with.
Sonic Runners Adventure[edit | edit source]
In, Sonic Runners Adventure, as he was wandering on his own, Sonic received a transmission from Tails, who told him that Dr. Eggman was up to no good on South Island. Going back to Green Hill to investigate, Sonic found Tails, who informed the hedgehog that Eggman caught him and had forced him to build a robot teleporter.
The duo proceeded to track the evil scientist and defeated him, but Eggman managed to escape. When they tried to follow him, Sonic got injured. Leaving Sonic to rest, Tails chased the doctor through Desert Ruins. After shutting down Eggman's latest facility, the fox cub reunited with Sonic, now recovered, and together they went after Eggman. Though the duo defeated Eggman again, they failed to catch the madman. Tracking Eggman to the hostile Lava Mountain, Knuckles joined Sonic and Tails on their adventure. With Team Sonic fully reunited and with the aid of Tails, Knuckles stopped the Extractor set up by Eggman and beat him, only for Eggman to retreat again.
The trio continue their chase to Sky Sanctuary, where Eggman, with nowhere to go now, used his Mind Control Ray on Sonic to distract him while he escaped. Tails and Knuckles soon after realized that Eggman's plan all along was to take control of the world with his mind control device powered by the Extractor and the latent energies in Sky Sanctuary. Resolving to keep Eggman from using his weapon, Team Sonic destroyed the Mind Control Ray. Sonic then stepped in and defeated Eggman, who retreated while swearing vengeance.

Deep Trouble[edit | edit source]
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, Team Heroes was later reunified again when Knuckles sent an invitation for Sonic and Tails to come help him with an issue on Angel Island. By the time the trio reconvened though, Sonic and Knuckles briefly got into an argument due to Knuckles saying that Sonic brings trouble to his island, and angrily blaming Sonic for bringing the Metal Virus and the Zombots. Regardless, Tails managed to defuse the tension between the two, prompting Knuckles to reveal that he needed their help investigating some strange quakes in Marble Garden. Sonic thought that meant that Knuckles counted on them, but Knuckles snarked that he counted on Sonic to cause trouble and relied on Tails to keep him focused. Regardless, Team Heroes proceeded towards Marble Garden. As Sonic and Tails discussed which way was the quickest to Marble Garden (among other things) however, Knuckles showed them a shortcut through the mountains. As Sonic and Tails acknowledged Knuckles for his knowledge about the island, Knuckles admitted that he had only found this route recently, and that he, much to his displeasure, had yet to explore all of Angel Island. Eventually reaching Marble Garden, Team Heroes came across Dr. Eggman, who was causing the quakes by recklessly drilling for rare minerals in a drilling vehicle. Then after exchanging a few brief quips, the trio engaged Eggman and his vehicle. Despite nearly getting buried alive, the trio's teamwork managed to let them survive the ordeal and defeat Eggman's vehicle. As the doctor then left Angel Island, the trio hopefully believed that Eggman would not come back for a while. Afterwards, Tails offered Knuckles to come back with them for some R&R and see what had been going on without him. Knuckles declined the offer though, insisting that he still had a lot to discover about Angel Island first. Accepting this, Sonic promised Knuckles that he could count on his teammates if he needed help again.[5]

Theme songs[edit | edit source]
- "We Can" (Sonic Heroes)
- "High Flying Groove" (Sonic Riders)
- "Un-Gravitify" (Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity)
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The three characters that compose Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles) had joined forces a considerable number of times before the group's official foundation in Sonic Heroes, such as in Sonic 3 & Knuckles or Sonic Adventure 2.
- Team Sonic is the only trio in Sonic Heroes:
- Where the Power Type character is not considerably larger than the other characters.
- To have more than one pose upon completing a stage; in addition to their standard pose seen in most stages, they have a different pose seen upon completing Egg Fleet and another (due to being in their Super States) upon defeating Metal Overlord.
- Team Sonic is the only team in Sonic Heroes where the three characters are the same color as their ability type. This is most likely because the colors of the ability types are based off the members of Team Sonic.
- Team Sonic is one of two trios in Sonic Heroes that contain no female characters, the other being Team Chaotix.
- The trio's theme in Sonic Riders, entitled "High Flying Groove", appeared in Sonic Generations.
- In Team Sonic Racing, the crew is the only team to not feature their theme song from Sonic Heroes ("We Can") when activating the Team Ultimate mechanic as either Sonic, Tails or Knuckles; as a shortened version of their own, individual theme songs will play.
- They are the most common team in the series by appearances, second only to Team Chaotix.
