Christmas Island is a location mentioned in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is an island on Earth, notable for being the place where Sonic the Hedgehog was born.[1]
Not much is known about this place. According to Sonic himself, Christmas Island is a strange place that looks much different from most other places on earth.[2]
In a 2011 interview conducted by the Russian magazine GameLand, Yuji Naka clarified that Christmas Island was based on the actual island, which was the site of nuclear weapons testing by the United States and the United Kingdom during the Cold War, which is why Sonic Team chose to populate it with robots and strange animals.[3]
On 23 June,[1] Christmas Island became the birthplace of Sonic the Hedgehog, who abandoned his home at an early age to pursue danger and adventures.
