Official solicitation

IDW Publishing describes the issue as the start of a new mini-arc in which Tangle and Whisper face both an unfamiliar danger and strain in their friendship. The announcement frames the conflict as being about "an unknown threat and…each other".[ref name="IDW92Catalog" /]

After a difficult conversation, the two friends decide to spend some time apart. Their separation coincides with the appearance of a mysterious fog that envelops Spiral Hill while Tangle is inside. Whisper enters the affected area with her Wisps in an attempt to rescue her friend.

The publisher explains that the apparent rescue mission is complicated by changes in Whisper's surroundings and perception. The town and Tangle no longer seem to match what she remembers. The solicitation does not disclose the cause of the phenomenon or the outcome of the rescue.[ref name="IDW92Catalog" /]

The issue follows earlier developments concerning Tangle and Whisper, including their confrontation with [[Mimic]]. In the August 2026 Super Sonic Monthly interview, IDW's Sonic editorial team identified issues #92 and #93 as an opportunity to explore the two characters' next steps with Mimic no longer at the center of their immediate conflict.[ref name="IDW92Reveal"]David Brooke.

The issue is part of Road to #100, the publisher's initiative leading to the ongoing series' hundredth issue. Its solicitation establishes the beginning of a new Tangle and Whisper story, while the announced continuation in issue #93 confirms that the two issues form a related narrative.[ref name="IDW92Reveal" /]
