Xbox Series X and Series S
The Xbox Series X and Series S, initially known as Project Scarlett, is a line of home video game consoles released by Microsoft and is the successor to the Xbox One line. It was released on 10 November 2020 as part of the ninth generation of consoles, competing against the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Series S is a weaker version of the much more powerful Series X. Both consoles are also compatible with the Xbox One.

The Xbox Series X was originally codenamed "Anaconda", while the Xbox Series S was codenamed "Lockhart".

Backwards compatibility[edit | edit source]
The consoles support all Sonic games playable on the Xbox One, which also includes all of its backwards compatible Sonic games on Xbox 360. All of the games are able to perform better on Series X and Series S than on their predecessors.[1] For Xbox One titles, the Xbox Series X will run the Xbox One X versions with added enhancements, while the Xbox Series S opts for the base Xbox One/Xbox One S versions with added enhancements.[2] On 15 November 2021, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Generations, and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed were updated to support FPS Boost, allowing them to run at 60 FPS on both Series X and Series S consoles.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- As of 2024, Sonic Frontiers and Sonic X Shadow Generations are the only Smart Delivery titles to require an internet connection to obtain the Xbox Series X versions if the user is playing off the discs, as the discs themselves only contain the Xbox One versions.
