The Xbox (often referred as Xbox 2001 or the Original Xbox to distinguish with the console's main series and the Xbox One) is a video game console produced by Microsoft. It competed with Nintendo's GameCube and Sony's PlayStation 2 consoles as part of the sixth generation of video game consoles. It was first released in North America in November 2001 and in other nations during the following year. It features a built-in hard drive for game saves. It has an online multiplayer service, Xbox Live which was discontinued in April 2010. Its successor is the Xbox 360.

Platinum Family Hits games[edit | edit source]
Shortly after Sonic Heroes and Sonic Mega Collection Plus became part of the Platinum Family Hits series, they were both released in combo packs, each game included Super Monkey Ball Deluxe.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- This is the first console to support an internal hard drive, ethernet port, 720p & 1080i video, and 5.1 surround sound in games.
- Sonic Mega Collection Plus is the only Sonic title on the Xbox to be region free for all of its regional variants; every other Xbox Sonic title is region locked.
- The region coding of Xbox games can be determined by the letter near the end of its mastering code located at the underside of the disc.
- Sonic Mega Collection Plus uses 'W' (for 'World').[6]
- Sonic Heroes, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe, and Shadow the Hedgehog are all region locked to the specific region they were released in:
- The European Xbox release of Sonic Riders uses 'W', while the American and Japanese versions use 'A' and 'J', respectively.[16][17][18]
