===Gerald Robotnik===

[[Gerald Robotnik]] is Maria's grandfather and the one who took care of her when she was suffering from her disease.<ref name="SA2Guide" /> Like Maria was the jewel of Gerald's eye,<ref name="SA2Guide" /> Maria was very fond of Gerald and was always seen smiling and caressing him in his presence. She always referred to him as simply "grandfather" and she admired him for his creations that could help mankind, most noticeably his [[Heal Unit]]s.

During Gerald's work on [[Project Shadow]], Maria also seemed to assist him at several points with his research. She was pictured holding a salamander that might have been used to create the [[Biolizard]], and designed the concepts that would go on to become Shadow's [[Air Shoes]]. However, Gerald did keep Maria in the dark about many of the darker aspects of the project, such as the Biolizard, though he was hesitant to do so.
