As with the previous entries in the ''Sega Superstars'' series, the game features characters from the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|''Sonic the Hedgehog'' series]] and many other [[Sega]] franchises. 

At the start of the game, players can choose from Sonic, Tails, Amy, Dr. Eggman, Shadow, AiAi, Billy Hatcher, Amigo, and any console exclusive characters and DLC characters (Mii on the [[Wii]], and Avatar and Banjo & Kazooie ([[Xbox 360]]), Metal Sonic & Ryo Forklift on the [[Xbox 360]] & [[PlayStation 3]] as DLC characters). Other characters are unlocked by purchasing them with Sega Miles.
