In the ''[[The Jet Black Hedgehog: Shadow the Hedgehog]]'' [[manga]] series published by [[CoroCoro Comic]], Shadow's past is substantially different. He is an aggressive, and violent, yet stoic hedgehog who after suffering an identity crisis for being a failed cure for [[Maria Robotnik|Maria]]. Earth's National Defense Forces, being manipulated by death leeches, raid the Space Colony ARK, disposing of everything including Maria. After heartfelt words from Maria, Shadow gets sent down by an emergency escape pod and teleports into [[White Space]], in which he meets a mysterious creature known as [[Bug-Eye]], who promises to bring Maria back to life as long as Shadow collects the [[Three Wishing Orbs]].
