Synopsis
After defeating Dr. Robotnik, the Knothole Freedom Fighters and other citizens explore the ruins of Robotropolis. They enter the city and reflect on its history, but tensions arise between Geoffrey and Sonic over securing the area. A DYNAMAC robot attacks, capturing some members. Sonic and Geoffrey’s initial attacks fail, and a battle ensues. Using teamwork, they manage to defeat the robot. The group continues exploring and confronts the reality of the city’s disrepair. Sally expresses her emotions, and Sonic gives her space.
The next day, Sally organizes tasks to rebuild the city and assigns Sonic and Tails to explore. Geoffrey’s absence is noticed, and it’s revealed he’s been having a private chat with King Acorn. King Acorn expresses concerns about Charles Hedgehog, who founded the Robotropolis Spy Network and created the Roboticizer. Meanwhile, Charles informs the robians that Robotnik has been defeated and discusses their situation. Sonic and Tails encounter functioning SWATbots and rescue Penelope Platypus. Rudyard, a robian, helps them free Arlo and introduces Sonic to his parents, who are robians.
Sonic learns that his parents survived and is angry at Charles for not telling him. Tensions rise as Sonic grapples with the truth. Sally works to gain robians’ cooperation, but some resist due to their changed lives. Sonic and Tails encounter Charles and the robians and discuss the situation. Sonic’s anger dissipates, and they return to the city. Sally and the others manage to establish communication lines with the robians. Sonic confronts Charles about not revealing his parents’ survival earlier. Tensions escalate, leading to a fight between Sonic and Geoffrey.
Sally tries to reconcile them and reveals her father’s plans to secretly control decisions. Sally debates her duty and confides in NICOLE. The next day, Sally finds the robians planning to create their colony in Robotropolis due to tensions with mobians. Meanwhile, Rotor sends Snively to Devil’s Gulag. In his cell, Snively plans his escape and plots revenge against the mobians.

Trivia
- This particular issue notably includes two frontispieces. The first frontispiece, created by Patrick Spaziante, functions as the credits page. The second frontispiece, referred to as “text art” in the credits section, was crafted by Sam Maxwell and Harvey Mercadoocasio.
- Interestingly, writer Ken Penders has shared that he initially believed this issue to be an independent one-shot, rather than the second installment of Sonic Super Special. Consequently, the cover layout he submitted carried the title “Sonic – Brave New World.”[1]Ken Penders on Twitter. Twitter (26 September 2022). Retrieved on 28 September 2022. “Ken Penders: From the Files: Here’s the original cover layout I turned in for what I initially thought would be a stand-alone 48-page special instead of issue 2 of the SONIC SUPER SPECIAL series. Basically, everything’s there except for the color, and I was already planning to use airbrush.”
